Why do Los Angeles pools waste so much water?

We are currently and typically in a drought in Southern California. Much of the water from Los Angeles gets brought over in a pipeline from the Sierra Mountains as Los Angeles itself is much like a desert. The city needs lots of water to support its millions of residents so often times water wasting goes more unnoticed.

We see lots of water wasting every week very much thankful to the AUTOFILL installed on many swimming pools in Los Angeles so the level remains the same for the resident. Yes the autofill exists in other places as well but with the amount of residents in Los Angeles and the prevalence of the autofill the amount of water loss in Los Angeles adds up very quickly. Many residents are not even aware such a device exists on their pool..they simply think their pool doesn’t lose water. This is definitely not the case!
